Presidents
Sphinx Club presidents are current students elected by their fellow members to lead the club most often during their senior year. The president is responsible for leading the club’s efforts to foster unity and spirit throughout the Wabash community by sponsoring and promoting a variety of events.

On December 15, 1921, 21 Wabash men traveled to Indiana University with the desire to found a distinctly new type of organization on the Wabash College campus. The founding members of the club were all initiated by the Sphinx Club of Indiana University, adopting in a large measure the ritual, constitution, and ideals of the Indiana organization. Shortly after returning to Wabash, the founding members elected George W. Stasand ‘23, a brother of Delta Tau Delta, as the first President of the Sphinx Club of Wabash College.
Today
Just over 100 Wabash men have served as President of the Sphinx Club of Wabash College since George Stasand was first elected way back in 1921. Only World War II and the temporary conversion of the Wabash campus into a V-12 Navy College Training Program from 1943 - 1945 interrupted the regular election of club presidents. Listed below are the names, terms of office, and any fraternal associations of the past presidents of the Sphinx Club of Wabash College. Tanner Quackenbush ‘26, a brother of Beta Theta Pi, is the 103rd and current President of the Sphinx Club of Wabash College.
31st President Jack Engledow ‘53 attends the Sphinx Club’s Centennial Celebration held on October 29, 2022, with his grandsons Eric (Wabash ‘05) and Craig (Wabash ‘08) and his great-grandson Henry.
